More than three decades after the transformative years of 1989/1991, Eastern Europe presents a striking diversity of political trajectories. This workshop revisits foundational questions of post-communist political development, moving beyond early transition paradigms and examining long-term processes shaped by external conditionality, historical path dependencies, domestic agency, and political creativity.
The workshop is based on the recent volume: Die politischen Systeme im östlichen Europa: Institutionen, Akteure und Prozesse (Springer, 2025), edited by Sonja Priebus and Timm Beichelt.
